CANSTRUCTION® COMPETITION
CREATES SUCCESS FOR PROJECT SHARE AND LOCAL FOOD BANKS
Immediate Release - March 31, 2008
Imagine…. one can of food resulting in 30,000 cans of food provided to local food banks and pantries – all from the generous donations of Canstruction ® design/build teams, local architectural, engineering and contracting firms, and sponsorships from Giant Food Stores, ABC27, and the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Harrisburg. Canstruction®, a charity committed to ending hunger held its 2nd Annual 2008 Central Pa Design/Build Competition during the recent Pennsylvania Home Show at the PA State Farm Show Complex. The results were a huge success.
30,000 cans of food were donated to Project S.H.A.R.E. who distributed them to 188 pantries located in Dauphin, Cumberland, Lancaster, York and Lycoming Counties who report serving an average of 3,000+ households per month. An additional $13,000 was distributed to the food banks.
Sixteen (16) Central PA architects, engineers, contractors including two student programs comprised the ten (10) competing teams who designed and built structures made entirely from full cans of food, design and structural ingenuity. These colorful and creative structures included the Capitol building, a suspension bridge, a hot air balloon, an American flag, a covered bridge, an ice cream sundae, Bart Simpson, sheep in a barnyard, a Hershey kiss and bowling pins.
A team of expert professionals in their industries judged and presented awards for the best and brightest design structures at the Canstruction® Competition Awards presentation at the C. Ted Lick Wildwood Conference Center on the HACC Campus.
Structure Awards included:
Best Meal: “Ewe Can Help Stop Hunger–Hunger is Baad!”,
